Biography of Timothy Wyant, Ph. D.
Timothy Wyant holds a Ph.D. in biostatistics from Johns Hopkins University. He has been an independent statistical consultant for 15 years. Prior to starting his statistical consulting practice, he was Vice President, Senior Statistician, and Director of Computer Operations at Econometric Research, Inc., and a mathematical statistician at the U.S. Geological Survey. His clients have included government agencies, industry, nonprofit trusts, and law firms. He has provided analysis and expert testimony in numerous litigations.
Dr. Wyant has worked on a wide range of environmental, climatological, and toxic exposure projects involving statistical analysis. These projects include forecasting of disease incidence and legal liability for asbestos disease claims, sample survey designs for the assessment of indoor air quality, environmental risk assessment for offshore oil spills, flood and drought predictions, forecasting of cold-weather natural gas demands, investigation of design constraints for North Slope offshore oil rigs and ice-breaking tankers, analysis of industrial respirator studies for the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, analysis of medical costs from exposure to tobacco smoke, and computerized mapping and geospatial analyses.
Dr. Wyant has worked extensively in the area of tort damages related to disease, death, and disability. He was responsible for designing the payment schedules and claim evaluation rules for the Dalkon Shield Claimants Trust, considered by a number of authorities to be one of the most successful of the claims resolution trusts set up to resolve mass product liability claims.
