Biography of John Downie, MBA

John Downie earned an MBA in Finance from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration of the University of Rochester.  Prior to becoming an independent consultant, he worked for two nationally recognized economic consulting firms, Putnam, Hayes and Bartlett, Inc., and The Brattle Group, Inc.  He also worked for a financial advisory firm that specializes in the power industry and corporate and municipal finance issues.  At the latter firm, he was a financial advisor to the public utilities commission of a major state on its issuance of $1.3 billion of asset-backed securities, working with investment banks and rating agencies to ensure the best outcome for ratepayers.

As a consultant, Mr. Downie has developed complex financial models for use in many different contexts, including banking, product liability, financial planning related to electric utilities, valuation of complex financial assets, and breach of contract litigation.  He has also worked in many cases in which he assisted in the calculation of the economic benefit that a corporation or regulated entity may have obtained due to noncompliance with environmental requirements.
